Shigeru Mukai studies algebraic varieties related with K3 surfaces, including Fano 3-folds and Enriques surfaces. He is interested in moduli of those varieties also. He applied the theory of vector bundles on K3’s to the classification of Fano threefolds. In connection with moduli problem he is interested in the invariant theory also. Around 2000, he posed the problem asking the finite generation of the invariant ring of polynomial ring under a linear action of the 2-dimensional additive group.
